Off with their Hats!

This is my Sassy Studio Designs card.  If you are looking for the Bombshell card - then please scroll down to my next post (and check out this card while you are scrolling - nudge nudge).

Hey all - It is Dare to Be Sassy Thursday over at Sassy Studio Designs. This week we are challenging you to use an image with a hat in celebration of the Kentucky Derby and all the fascinators that show up there.

I chose to go with Steampunk Vivian for this Sassy card!

I colored her in shades of purple - V20, 22, 25, 29.  Steampunk is always browns it seems, and I just wanted to give it a twist. The greens are BG70, 72, 75, 78. Her hair was fun. I used several different shades for that. I started with a base of Y11, and then progressed to E13, 17 and 18. I love the Yellow with the red browns.

Anytime I think about hats I immediately go to the Mad Hatter! When we were in Disney World a few years ago we went to the breakfast at the restaurant in the Grand Floridian and had the absolute best character experience ever - and it was due to the Mad Hatter. He was incredible!!!!  Now I want to go to Disney - WAH!

OK... so here is a close up of the coloring:

I hope you all check out the DTBST post and try on a hat... and (hint hint) crowns count as hats! :-) Just sayin.

Once Upon a Time...

There was a company that loved to sponsor challenge blogs. Now this company on a lovely Thursday in October chose to sponsor a fun challenge blog over at this one site called Aud Sentiments. They chose to challenge their subjects to include a sentiment from their favorite fairytale.

After much pondering and thoughtful interpretation, I could not narrow it down to a single story. Therefore I chose to incorporate the "Once Upon a Time" sentiment into my project because it is the beginning of every happy fairy tale (even some of the more modern ones (STAR WARS ANYONE??).

Steampunk Vivian SCREAMED At me to use her, and I think she fits nicely with this theme. She is out here to take charge of her own life. The inside says it all - - It uses the other sentiment that is tied with this one in my mind and that is "Happily Ever After".

I hope you jump on over to the Sassy Studio Designs blog and check out what the rest of the team has prepared for you.

It's Icon-ic

Hey there all. Welcome to my humble abode for my take on the ICON Blog Hop. If you arrived from Jodi's Blog, then you are on the right track... If you just happened along or came directly here - then take a look here and then check out the rest of the blog hop starting from the beginning.

I really love the Steampunk look of things, so I decided to pull out my gears Spellbinders Dies and cut out a few of the gears in different colors of brown.  The Icon image I chose I think goes so well with the gears. The little bitty ships wheel from a couple of the sets (Mermaid Anchor and Ahoy Sailor) and reinds me of the gears. The spokes and all. So I stamped that wheel in the middle of the cutouts that I made of the gears. I also added some ink with sponging to give it more of an antique-y, metal-y look.

I chose the paper from a 7Gypsies set I have. The ATC is made with a clear acrylic base. I pasted all the gears and the extra doo-hickeys to the front of the plastic sheet. Then I stamped "It's Your Lucky Day" from Mermaid Treasure set in Black Versafine. Then I clear embossed it. This I stuck using ATG tape to the back of the clear plastic. I trimmed the paper around the plastic shape. Then I added a bit of extra to it with bendable wire. this I wrapped and twisted in different areas. Where it is coming up through the image... that is through a hole I punched with a metal punch.

I hope you enjoyed this. Just another way to use the Icons in the Bombshell Stamp Sets.

Now - you should head on over to Kim's blog and see what Icon-ic thing she has in store for you. If you get lost along the way, you can always come back here and use the list below to find your way.

A Steamy Dip

Hey there all. I have been even more inspired due to the December Bombshell Theme of Steampunk to get more steampunky all around.

I used this amazing Kenny K image to create my Steampunky vision. WILDLY enough I picked the colors and then found paper to match the colored image. I couldn't believe I found this paper. I nearly fell into shock when I did, and that it worked so well.

Because she is a lovely deep sea Steam gal, I decided to use a lot of BG7x series in addition to the browns. For the browns on her outfit I used the E7x and then the boots and leather stuff are E3x series. As always, when I want to show something sheer, I color the underneath part as if the sheer overlayer is not there. Then I use the color of the sheer items and color slightly over it to make sure that the underneath AND the sheer colors are mixed in.

I had a LOT of fun with the golden and metalic colors on this.

For the gold, I used Y11, layered with Y23, 26 and 28.. then I added some E07 in spots to add some red depths to it. For the silvery metal pieces / or pewter / iron???? I am not sure what the metal would be, I used the C1, 3, 5 and a little 7. Once I was done, I used a little bit of E04 to give it a patina. I LOVE love love overlaying the colors with the Copics. It gives such interesting depth and changes the look entirely.

I finished her up by adding enamel accents for buttons and stuff on the leather. To get them that tiny was REALLY hard... I did pretty good on most. HAHAHA. Because it is still going on, and it fits the Challenge of Anything Goes - - I am entering this into Kenny K's challenge this week.

Ok, Hope to see you back soon. Have a great day. I intend to as it is back to work tomorrow!!!!

Give it to Me ONE MORE TIME!

Hey there y'all!  It is that time of the month again when we celebrate all things Bombshell via a krazy fun Blog hop. This month Alison challenged us to think inside the box - the gift box that is. She asked that instead of a card we make a gift. It has been the season of giving you know! you should have arrived from taking a gander at Alex's project... if not, hop on over to the Bombshell stamps blog to start the hop out!
I have made two different gifts. The first one I made for my Sister-in-law and gave her her gift of Wonder Woman Pajamas in it. I have been dying to post it, but didn't want to blow the surprise. She got it Sunday night, and I haven't posted since then. :-)

I used a box I found at Hobby Lobby, and I added DCWV paper to it, I then steampunked it out with all sorts of doo dads, and then I added the Bombshell Retro Cowgirls and then made her a lovely Steampunky Dress type thing. I used tracing paper to design with pencil the dress. Then I used a lightbox to transfer the dress design onto the thicker paper to allow me to corlor it. To "top" it off I added the hat from the Halloween Costume Digi Stamps.

The second gift I made was a real departure for me - in the dimensional sense.

I used gold and white paper and mod-podged a wooden egg. I then colored up the lovely Rose in shades of yellowy gold (Y11, 21, 23, 26, 28). I cur out Rose, and then I trimmed her up a little to allow me to mold it to the egg. So where the back hairline meets the front hairline I cut it to the rose, and then tucked the back hair slightly under the front portion. I did the same with her hair on the side.

Once I mod Podged her up and it dried, I added all sorts of delicious bling all over the egg to give it a little dimension and interest to the back.  I am entering her in the iCopic bling in the New Years Challenge.

There you have it. My attempt at mixed media (well a little bit of mixing), and gifts for the holidays.

Thank you for stopping by. The next stop on you hop is the INCREDIBLY talented Milo!!!! If you get lost on your way the full list is below.

Lost Birthday Card!

So, a few weeks ago I made a card for my Sister in Law for her birthday. SIGH.... and mailed it. Only it never made  it to its destination. I have held off posting it hoping and praying it would get there... cuz I still wanted it to be a surprise. I have given up any faith in the USPS getting it to her since it has been 3 weeks. So  I have made her a second card (different) and UPS'd it overnight to her, and hope I will have much better luck this time. So here is my old lost card that I LOVED.

The design paper is Graphic 45. The background paper is some that I made from plain brown paper to look like metal. There is a tutorial on the paper over at the Bombshell Stamps Blog that I put together. The flowers are Recollections and the little doo-dads are Tim Holtz.

The image is from Sweet Pea Stamps. I colored her up using all sorts of Brown Copic markers. I would list them all, but I think it would be quicker to list the ones I did not use - E9x series and E4x series. Other than that, I think I used some of all the rest of them. The greens are YG 63, 67 and the yellows are Y2x series.  I cut her out after coloring her, and added her to a cut out Steampunk paper that I edged with brown ink.

So there is my lovely lady. I hope you all enjoyed her. And Michelle - I hope you like your new card. It should be there Thursday or Friday!!! I have a tracking number this time.

Thank you for stopping by. I should have another card to post soon.
