Fathers Day 2011

Isn't this little dude so cute.????  I found him over at the Paper Shelter, and I just fell in love with him. I decided to make this card for my father for Fathers Day. I think it makes it even better that he is using sewing paraphenalia to defend the world. For me it is funny because my Mom quilts, and so their house is covered in the stuff. :-)

I used my Copics to color him up. THe greens are YG11, 13, 17, and the purples are V12, 15, 17. I feathered the two together and then I added a little bit of dotting using purple and green multiliner brush pens. The skin I did up in my standard E0000, E000, E00 scheme with R20 as the blush. I used brown .01 multiliner to add freckles. I also used the green multiliner brush to add lines on the feather. The "white" was done with B0000, B000, and then I added Copic White to spots on his teeth and then also on the glove. The greys are cool greys (C0, 1, 3, 5 and 7).

Now... for this one the coloring was SO EASY compared to the rest of it. This is unusual, because hey - - the card seems simple right? SURE. RIGHT. Well some of you know already from my post on Facebook that my Cuttlebug exploded. YES, you read that correctly - it EXPLODED. I did not do anything other than try to cut out the flower petals with the quilling dies... I couldn't get a good cut. I tried it several times. I added a shim. Tried it, added a slightly thicker shim, tried it... still not cutting completely. So I got rid of the 3 paper shims (standard cardstock), and tried it one more time with a standard manilla folder I had cut in half.  About 1/4 of the way through - BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMM!!!!!

The left side (side without the handle) Flew off and the top blew upward and it scared my husband to death. We tried putting it back together. Yay - it popped back in...but as you cranked , the top came back up and there was no pressure. We tried and tried, and nope... and finally the gears were making a horrid sound, and we just said BLECK.  So I went out and got a Grand Calibur. Popped the dies in and it cut oh so sweetly. And I was FINALLY able to make the flower. YAY.

So there is the story of my card, and the death of a Cuttlebug. I am entering it into the Paper Shelter Challenge for Punches and Dies. I think I earned every bit of this one!!!!!

Have a great rest of the weekend and next week. See you back here soon I hope!

  1. May your Cuttlebug rest in peace! Your card is so cute and that image made me smile - just awesome! Hope you like your new Grand Calibur. I have been looking at them - only because I want to use some of the larger dies. My Big Shot still functions great - but won't take the grand dies.

  3. Great card! The image is adorable!!! You know I had a friend whose Cuttlebug "exploded", too. She bought a used one from a friend and that one exploded as well! Hmm, I'd better be careful with mine! I don't want to lose a valuable "friend"!

  4. The card is adorable. That stamp is so goofily sweet and so wonderfully colored.

So, despite of my great advice, you went and got an Excalibur. You'll have to let me know how you like it!
